In the past 4 decades only 18 teachers have been sacked for incompetence and yet even the General Teaching Council thinks that 17,000 are incompetent.
So enough of the weasel words...how about a bit of practical dead wood chopping then, eh?
It is surprisingly difficult to remove people from any job merely for being useless at it, hence the need to try to persuade people to leave rather than sack them.
This follows from the underlying dynamic of our employment legislation which can tie an employer up in red tape for days, weeks, months, every time they try to take action. Consequently the standard advice is to pay small claims off because it can easily cost more in lawyers than to get rid of the employee.
It sticks in the craw because a bad teacher should be sacked, not rewarded, but in practice it might be better to give them a year's money and bar them from teaching in future.
What about the useless and amoral scum kids - victims of endless social engineering, farming divorce lawyers and societal breakdown since the war? Its easy to blame others when you cannot take responsibility for the actual fact that education is a two way process. You can lead the dog to water but you can't make him drink or think! Its easy to make victims when you have no real understanding or solutions and your actions are the result of the moral cowardice above you.

My initial rant was not about crappy teachers as such, it was about the attitude of the supposed Regulator who, while implicitly admitting that such teachers are in post (17,000 according to the widely respected Mr. Eye), seems to think that the solution is to get all cuddly about their fucking feelings when, of course, chucking them on the burgeoning dole queue is obviously the way forward.
