Met Office V Piers Corbyn

On Xmas Eve the Met Office trashy website (www.metoffice.gov.uk) was, despite the freezy evidence from looking out of its own windows, predicting a sudden thaw with temperatures of balmy 4-8 degrees+C in these parts come Boxing Day (the day after Xmas day for my American friends though when it falls on a weekend it becomes St. Stephens Day so Boxing Day comes the day after that but that's now a BanK Holiday because Xmas was a Saturday, it's so confusing).

Independent meteorologist Piers Corbyn, supported by the UK Daily Telegraph and London Mayor Boris Johnston, was predicting last week that we were in for more snow this Boxing Day evening and again on the 29th Jan.
Okey dokey, let's see then.

The green hijack of the Met Office is crippling Britain By Christopher Booker
" Dr David Viner of the CRU famously predicted to The Independent in 2000 that “within a few years winter snowfall will be a very rare and exciting event” Thanks Dave, I'm really excited.
"There would not be another winter like 1962/3 “for 1,000 years or more” No? Really? Well what do you call this then?.

Note & Quote > Vladimir Petuchov then adds a line, which I think will become infamous down the road:
Hard winters do not refute global warming, instead they more so confirm it.”

Preview, today (Sunday 26th) at 5am it was 12 degrees below Zero C, in town.

Banned, Happy Boxing Day!

I was laughing so hard when I read your line "despite the freezy evidence from looking out of its own windows"!

My Dad always used to say if you want to know the weather get off your arse and just go outside! He grew up in Canada and just could not stand so-called meteorologist's.

Hi Banned, Happy Boxing Day & St. Stephens Day too! It's snowing like a blizzard out here, so I guess I'll go now and shovel all that global warming.

I was going to wait until the city street snow trucks came out, otherwise I do it twice in the front, after they get all the dirty slush on the street side of the walk, but now it's 12:30 and If I don't do it now, I won't feel like it later! Stupid weather!

I hope your Christmas was grand and you are having a nice restful weekend.

Hi Chris, I've spoken with people who have to go to their grandparents for descriptions of weather as bad as this, the one thing that has made it bearable is that there has hardly been any wind.
One thing that I have noticed is that once it goes more than 2 or 3degrees C below you don't notice the difference, it is just cold.

Hey Bunni, I gather that America has to go back to work today (Monday).
Tee Hee, we get two extra Bank Holidays, today and tomorrow, as compensation for Xmas falling on the weekend but by then it is Wednesday so industrial plants don't bother firing up since Friday is New Years Eve, Monday is another Compo Bank Holiday.

Usually the country shuts down for a fortnight but this year it looked like we would be short changed with just the week between Xmas and New Year weekends but the 10 inches snowhell the Monday before Xmas sorted that out!

Hi Woodsie, "warmth", good word, got back from a walk to the Off Licence "liquor store" with just the one pair of trousers.

0-0 draw I'd say. The "Climate Cooling Deniers" (h/t wattsupwiththat.com) The Met Office thaw came two days late which is piss poor considering how much money we pay them to predict the weather but then Piers Corbyns boxing day snowmaggedon failed to arrive also.

Hey Banned,

I am in (by protest) the socialist organisation known as the UAW, so I am off work today. Since Christmas fell on a Saturday here, the holiday is formerly recognised on Monday. Socialists never get it!
