Egypt, 1905 moment?

In 1905 Imperial Russia was beset by revolt and revolution, caused and affected by imperialist war with Japan. Can't remember all the details because I'm not an historian. The crowds were satisfied that the Army had not killed many of them, some policies had changed, a free press emerged, constitutional reforms were put in place, various Tsarist ministers came and went and 'democracy' was installed with the Parliamentary Duma.

But their victory was a sham and it required further revolution in 1917 to begin to oust the Tsarist order. What emerged was a kinda Liberal Democracy but, such was the wrath of the Russian people following the denial of their 1905 uprising that this was not enough. Kerensky and the Liberal middle class 'revolutionaries' were swept aside by not just Socialists but by Lenin and Trotsky who represented a tiny extremist faction within those socialists in furtherance of Total Revolution.

I fear that Egypt faces such a future.

It's all there in Dr. Zhivago

Fear you may be right banned; and, as always, it's the poor bloody peasants who will pay with their livelihoods, their freedom and - ultimately - their lives

Wonder who the holy man will be in this debacle..? There's bound to be one whispering his poison into the appropriate ear.

I hope your fears remain unrealised, though as you suggest, history has a way of showing us that hope is likely to remain unfilled.

I would not wish a Lenin - a mass murderer excelled only by his successor (and of course Chairman Mao) - on my worst enemy.

Great analogy banned. You may not be far off the mark.

Caractacus, Styx & Subrosa, thank you for your comments.

There are some fundamental differences of course, not least of which is that Religion was a pillar of the Tsarist state whereas in Egypt it remains in the wings of the opposition.

The Musloons will rule in the end, and then world well need to take this part of the world very seriously.

I see the same Banned and a great way to compare the scenarios.

Given Egypts Suez Canal though and the eventual outcome of "leadership" there, there is not the possibilty of war but rather the probability of it.

The world is in denial, WWII will seem like a walk in the park on a sunny day in comparison to what is coming.

HI Banned, this is a very good analogy! I fear we are just seeing the beginning of many, many revolutions in that part of the world. The mooselimbs are way more unhinged than the people in the Russian uprisings, so this will not end well.

Dr. Zhivago, that snow scene reminds me of here a few weeks ago. There is still much winter left, unfortunately, and a while before I see flowers. I did see a baby (i think) possum on my deck the other day. It ventured out from it's hiding place! I'd rather see a baby bunny, those possum's are kind of homely.

Here'a another parallel for you

"The European Revolutions of 1848, were a series of political upheavals throughout Europe. Described by some historians as a revolutionary wave, the period of unrest began in France and soon spread to the rest of Europe.

Although most of the revolutions were quickly put down, there was a significant amount of violence in many areas, with tens of thousands of people tortured and/or killed. While the immediate political effects of the revolutions were largely reversed, the long-term reverberations of the events were far-reaching."
