"You can't say THAT"

"...Immigration. Because the reason we don’t have any housing is that we have 400,000 extra people coming in here every year and doing jobs that our young people could do.”
“And that’s just the ones we know about,”
“Yes!” says Joan, throwing her dainty little jewel-encrusted and manicured hands in to the air. Exactly!"

Joan Collins in an interview in UK Daily Telegraph 12th September 2011; why was this not followed by the howl-storm that greeted David Starkeys recently much maligned comments?
Joan Collins says "too many immigrants"

Is it because the lefty liberals simply don't care what a washed up old has-been has to say or is it because they are unwilling to tackle such a National Treasure and risk a humiliating defeat a la Joanna Lumley and her magnificent Gurkha campaign?

26th Sept update
Ed Miliband (leader of UKs Socialist opposition party)

"We were wrong on immigration and harmed the working class"

That is not my point Woodie, you can't kick people out once they have become citizens (unless you use nazi tactics). My argument is against those within our country who allowed them in in the first place.
My opinion about why they have not shouted Joan Collins down for views that are Not Allowed is because they do not wish the discussion to explode.

Here, here to Ms. Collins!

Banned, To your point I did not see much dust-up about what John Cleese said in an Aussie interview either? I could be mistaken but that seems to have been under publicized so as not to upset British socialists.

Any pointers in the diection of John Cleeses comments Chris?

I always like Joan Collins--quite sexy! She is dead-on about too many immigrants, but your Labour Party in only looking for more voters when view it. Party first and nation next seems to be their outlook. Its the same here with the illegals coming in.

Yeah for Joan Collins! Immigrants destroy every country they come to (not the good ones from 50 or so years ago) The immigrants in our parents day learned ENGLISH, worked hard, and didn't expect gov't handouts. The scums today are all creeps, and you're right, Banned, they NEVER should have been let in in the lst place.

Just for the record:

The late Michael Foot predicted this and tried to get the Labour party to not support the referendum on continued EC (as was) membership.

His main concern was self-interest. He said that if they stayed in the EC it wouldn't be possible to protect their union members' jobs and they would be voted out of office.

In order avoid ths, Brown replaced one block of voters with another, creating the state client model of citizenship.

I wonder how many succesful Asian businessmen will continue to vote Labour, if they ever did and how many migrants from eastern Europe might regard them as the mirror of their own discarded communist past?

In the long run perhaps an own goal for Labour.
